Privacy Policy
Last updated: September 10, 2026
This policy explains what personal information Milywan Education collects, why we collect it, who we share it with, and the choices you have. We're a small Montréal school, and we collect only what we need to teach you French and run your membership.
1. Person in charge of your personal information
Under Québec's privacy law, the person responsible for protecting personal information at Milywan Education is Emily Tan, co-founder. You can reach them at milywan.education@gmail.com with any question, request or complaint about your personal information.
2. What we collect
- Account information: your name, email address and password. If you sign in with Google, we receive your name and email from Google instead of a password.
- Profile and onboarding: your phone number, French level, how you heard about us, and any goals or notes you choose to share.
- Membership and payments: your plan, trial status, and payment and subscription status. Card details are collected and stored by Stripe; we never see your full card number.
- Classes: the classes you book or cancel, and the meeting links for them.
- Practice TCF exam: if you ask for a study plan, we receive your email, your target exam and your practice results, including your answers.
- Tutor applications: if you apply to teach with us, your contact details and the résumé you upload.
- Technical information: basic information your browser sends, such as pages visited and device type, collected through the tools listed below.
3. Why we use it
- to create your account and let you sign in;
- to place you at the right level and match you with classes;
- to run your trial and membership, take payments and send receipts;
- to schedule classes and send you class links and reminders;
- to answer your questions and send the study plan you asked for;
- to review tutor applications;
- to understand how the website is used, so we can improve it.
We don't sell your personal information.
4. Service providers we share it with
We use trusted service providers to run Milywan Education. They only use your information to provide their service to us:
- Supabase: accounts and sign-in;
- Stripe: payments and subscriptions;
- Cloudflare: website hosting, our database, file storage (for example tutor résumés) and privacy-friendly website analytics;
- Google: sign-in with Google, Google Calendar and Meet for classes, and Google Sheets and Gmail for administration;
- Web3Forms: delivers Practice TCF study-plan requests to our inbox;
- Discord: our community space, if you choose to join. Discord's own privacy policy applies there.
Some of these providers store information outside Québec and Canada, mainly in the United States. Before using a provider, we check that your information will be adequately protected.
We may also disclose information if the law requires it.
5. Cookies and similar tools
- Essential: we store a sign-in token in your browser so you stay signed in. The site doesn't work properly without it.
- Analytics: Cloudflare Web Analytics counts visits without using cookies to track you.
- We don't use advertising or cross-site tracking cookies.
6. How long we keep it
We keep your information while your account is active. After you close your account, we delete or anonymize it within 12 months. The exception is payment records, which we must keep longer for tax purposes (generally 6 years in Canada). Tutor applications are kept for 12 months.
7. Security
We protect your information with reasonable safeguards, including encrypted connections, access limited to the people who need it, and trusted providers. If a privacy incident creates a risk of serious harm, we'll notify you and the Commission d'accès à l'information du Québec as the law requires.
8. Your rights
You can ask to:
- see the personal information we hold about you, and how it's used;
- correct information that's wrong or incomplete;
- have your information deleted, or stop us from sharing it;
- receive your information in a commonly used format;
- withdraw your consent.
Email milywan.education@gmail.com and we'll reply within 30 days. If you're not satisfied with our answer, you can complain to the Commission d'accès à l'information du Québec.
9. Children
We teach students of all ages. For students under 14, we only collect personal information with the consent of a parent or guardian, who manages the account. Parents and guardians can use all the rights above on their child's behalf.
10. Changes
If we make an important change to this policy, we'll update the date at the top and tell members by email.
